This 5-inch finger bowl was thrown on a pottery wheel and burnished with fine clay slip before decorating with cobalt oxide (blue) and gold mica. The outside was wrapped with seaweed and sawdust in a foil packet before firing in a pit in the ground overnight. Once cooled, this piece was cleaned and then buffed with acrylic wax to highlight the color variations (white to charcoal to cerulean blue to gold) and changes in texture (from silky satin to mottled roughness) from the firepit.

This pit-fired pottery is for decorative use and is unglazed, so it won't hold water like a glazed mug will. Enjoy this piece on a dresser or coffee table to hold trinkets like keys or rings.
